Children can sit in booster seats until they weigh just under 36 kg. Once your child is over 140 cm, the child can sit in the car as an adult.

When using booster seats for children, it is recommended that the child sit in the rear seat. If the child is placed in a front passenger seat with an activated airbag, the seat should be pushed as far back from the dashboard as possible.

The principal function of the child booster seat is to raise the level of the child to provide for a better positioning of the seat belt. The use of a child booster seat ensures that the seat belt lies over the child’s thighs and not across it’s stomach. The seat belt should lie close to the child’s neck, across the child’s chest and over the child’s thighs. It should never lie around the child’s stomach.

The closer the seat belt to the child’s body, the higher the level of safety. Try to ease up any thick clothing and place the seatbelt underneath.

Note that a child booster seat will not support a child if it falls asleep. If this happens, the seat belt may slip out of the correct position. This may in turn lead to the seat belt having a counterproductive effect in the event of a collision.

The child booster seat is mounted using a three-point seat belt. Do not mount your child booster seat in the middle of the rear seat using a two-point safety belt.

If you choose to use a child booster seat, it is very important to ensure that the seat belt is positioned correctly. Ensure that the lower strap of the seat belt passes across the thighs and not the stomach. The diagonal strap should pass across the chest and over the shoulder. It should be placed close to the neck without being uncomfortable.

The closer the seat belt is placed to the body, the better the level of protection provided. If possible, thick winter coats or jackets should be removed.

If the child finds the seat belt uncomfortable, you can improve the child’s comfort by attaching seat belt pads. These serve both to relieve itchiness and scratching and also assist in keeping the seat belt in the correct position.
